    The story of Leah

Leah was the elder daughter of Laban, often described as having tender or delicate eyes. She became Jacob's first wife through her father's trickery, as Laban switched her for Rachel on the wedding night. Throughout her life, Leah lived in the shadow of her younger sister's beauty and Jacob's clear preference for Rachel. Despite this lack of affection from her husband, the biblical narrative emphasizes that God saw her situation and blessed her with many children.

Leah was the mother of six sons—Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun—as well as a daughter named Dinah. The names she gave her children reflected her deep longing for her husband's love and her reliance on God's mercy. Her sons formed the majority of the tribes of Israel, including the priestly line of Levi and the royal line of Judah, through which the Davidic kingdom and eventually the Messiah would come.

Though she often felt second best, Leah remained Jacob's constant companion through their travels and return to Canaan. She ultimately received a position of high honor that Rachel did not; she was buried in the Cave of Machpelah, the ancestral tomb of the patriarchs. Resting alongside Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, and eventually Jacob himself, Leah was recognized as a foundational matriarch of the nation of Israel and a recipient of God's special care.
